A chapter from the recent work of Gnome Scribe Ghal-mish-uul:

Legend rumors that at the heart of the most violent and stormy hurricanes a stalwart soul can find the essence that guides them. This essence is said to manifest in many forms, one of which is a man. Large and strong, this man is a warrior of the finest caliber, serving as general to the legions of storms that buffet the land with their fury. Within the Mists these legends are proven true, speaking of a man named Maelstrom. In a time of great darkness he came from the Storm Throne to lead the Warriors of Thera in their greatest battle. Now, tainted by the mortal magic he once fought against, Maelstrom spends his days within the Great Storm, studying its strength.

Maelstrom, the Anvil of Storms, Lord of Thunder is, in many ways, an enigma. His origin is uncertain, though it is whispered among some scholars that he is simply a manifest force of nature. In fact, there are many who believe Lord Maelstrom has no body, and the form he wears in Thera is but an affectation created from the storms that are his domain. This theory, though it fits much of the hard evidence presented, is possibly refuted by Lord Maelstrom's reputation as a fierce and puissant warrior. When presented with such an argument, one is forced to wonder where a force of nature would gain such a thorough understanding of physical weaponry. However, it is undeniable that Lord Maelstrom is known to ride from location to location upon a mighty bolt of lightning. It is also said by those who have encountered him that the weather near Lord Maelstrom often reflects his moods. These tidbits tend to support the "force of nature" argument. As I said, he is an enigma.

Lord Maelstrom first became evident in Thera shortly after the passing of Lord Julive (then Leader of the Crusaders). With this position of power unoccupied, no doubt many of the more-than-mortal powers fought for the title. Lord Maelstrom was the victor, and appeared to lead the Crusaders for many years. After a time he disappeared with startling abruptness, and has only recently returned to the land. He is now co-leading the Crusaders with Lord Darkwood at his right hand.

Most students of Pantheonic interaction agree that Lord Maelstrom represents the aspect of Strength in all of its various manifestations.
