Born in the mountain city of Thraccus, Gryleth Shortleg spent most of the first 40 years of life as a bladesmith's apprentice in the forges of Thraccus. The son of one of the mastersmiths of the city, the mere 40 years he spent in Thraccus was only enough to truly begin his mastery of the hammer and anvil....his time was mostly spent working the bellows and filling quench barrels. It was an early winter morning shortly after Gryleth's 40th birthday, and only 2 days after his alcohol-filled day of grown rights, that Gryleth was walking the fog shrouded trails around the mountain of Thraccus and near the forest valley of Lunnin when the mists darkened and he was rudely introduced to the lands of Thera.

Walking out of the mists, Gryleth took up the sword of the warrior's guild and began his training and survival away from his mountain home. Young in his life he heard of the glorious exploits of House Crusader. Shortly after his misdirected turn into Thera, Gryleth resolved to master his skills as a warrior and forsake the withering effects of mortal magic.

His patience and persistence paid off and he not only found a place in the Crusades, he quickly rose in ranks there in and emerged as the mortal leader. As well as his involvement in the Crusades, his studies of the Void remained constant and foremost in his mind. At his 37th rank in the warrior guild, Gryleth had mastered 32 of his skills. It was at this time Lord Xurinos found him worthy to be branded a follower of the Void.

Time passed and his career went well...then a family matter required his return to Thraccus. He was gone many months. He finally returned and Leadership of the Crusades was relinquished to him again. The Honor and Glory of the Crusades swelled. The dwarf got old.

At last, Gryleth's aged body could continue no longer. His thumper failed him and he shed his physical form. Just before he passed forever from this realm, the Gods above offered him Immortality as a member of the Pantheon. To this day, Gryleth Shortleg, Grumpy Forge of Battle, serves in the heavens to further the existence of the Dark Mists.
