Choosing a Character Name
So, you've decided to make a character, but are not sure what to call him or her? Picking a name is never an easy thing. Just about any type of name is acceptable in Dark Mists. However, there are some guidelines that must be adhered to, the immortal pantheon is very particular about them, so please read this section carefully. The guidelines are:

No name may be a curse word or one that is deemed profane. You all know what these are, examples aren't required.

No name may be of popular figures in history or present day living. This means no Adolph Hitler, no George Bush, and certainly no Bin Laden.

No name may be taken from popular shows, books, movies, or music. This means no Brad Pitt or Bruce Wayne or Marilyn Manson, for instance.

No name may be a conjunction of two names together. This means no Megaman, no Dragonslayer, or no Starfox.

No name may include randomly placed capital letters. This means no names like McConner or McNeDeer.

No name may be taken from pharmaceutical drug names. Examples would be Morphin or Lorazepam.

No name may closely mimic another?s simply by changing a letter. This means if someone is called Leroy, it is unacceptable to call yourself Leroi.

No name may be created that is done so in mockery of the immortal pantheon or any other player.

A name that is created must be pronounceable and must not simply be a string of consonants or vowels. This means no names like Tfrillxyzzwl.

After having followed all of the above guidelines, and you still produce a character whose name is not acceptable, a member of the immortal pantheon will bring you to the Realm of the Dead. Here you will have to choose another more suitable first name. The pantheon understands that sometimes it is hard to pick a name or that accidents do happen and you pick one that to similar to another players. We will gladly help you come up with a suitable alternative name.

Dark Mists offers a very unique feature when you begin your character creation. It offers you the chance to pick a surname or last name. This feature has proved time and time again to add more depth to the game and has become a valuable roleplay tool. So feel free to take advantage of this and pick a last name for your character. When you do pick a surname you may use the apostrophe(') and the hash mark(-) only once in your surname. So for example, you can be Leroy De'prut, or Leroy De-prut, or even Leroy De'prut-Truk. The use of multiple capital letters, quite obviously, is allowed, so long as it is not excessively done.

Should you mess up with your name or your surname during character creation, the immortal pantheon will be more than happy to help you correct any mistakes or problems. But be warned, if you choose to play your character and after many levels and many hours you decide you want your name or surname changed, you will find the immortal pantheon far less willing to help you than if you were still level 1 and newly created.

One final thing, if you are unable to come up with an interesting name, there are many name generators that can be found on the internet. It is recommended that you take a look at these for they may help you come up with both your first and last name. If you curious as to where to find a good name generator, ask on our forum, the other players will most likely know which sites are the best ones.
