Frequently Asked Questions
What names are acceptable on Dark Mists?
Any name that is not “well known," that is, no game characters, names of famous persons or places, names of things (such as Dogg or Pigg for example), or anything that would be considered unoriginal. Try to make up your own name.

Can I ask gods to help me get stuff or go places?
No.

I died and can’t find my corpse! What do I do?
The best thing to do is try to remember where you died. The only thing you can do if you can’t remember would be to wait around the temple pit where you recall to for roughly 15-20 minutes and hope that no one looted your equipment. If you are lucky and no one looted, then your equipment will end up in the pit when your corpse turns to dust.

Someone PKed me and I think they have no RP for doing so.
PK is part of the game and it is not required for people to sit down and explain to you why they are going to attack you before they do. If their motives are questionable, a god can check it out, but oftentimes it is assumed each PK has its reasons.

Can I make a special combination like a dark-elf paladin?
No, but we do have a special “lottery” every so often for each race that would allow the winner of the lottery to make a character for one year or until the next lottery for that race.

I want to be a troll and want to be good. How do I go about this?
Races are set to their alignments for a reason. To switch completely to another alignment would cause you to lose all your magical abilities if you can cast, or lose several high level skills if you cannot cast. Alignment changes are extremely rare and usually considered a punishment instead of a boon.

What if I roleplay being a good troll all the time?
Then you will receive the good alignment change and the above mentioned detriments.

Can I be an atheist in this game?
Yes, just choose not to worship any immortal. However be aware that this might make you disqualified from gaining the brand of an immortal.

I am evil but I want to worship a good immortal. Is that allowed?
It is, but don’t expect to get anything from that immortal.

What if I want to worship an immortal but form my own cult or just go against that immortal’s teachings?
You can, but again, don’t expect anything from that immortal.

I made my character, what do I do now?
You will be in a training area called “the Mists”. You can either type “recall” to go to your hometown and the main game immediately, or spend time here gaining experience and learning the game. An NPC nearby will allow you to train you stats and practice your skills.

What does Wisdom do?
It affects the attack power of the supplication of clerics and paladins. It also determines how many practices per level you get when you gain ranks.

What does Constitution do?
It determines how long your character lives compared to the racial average, the amount of hit points you get per level, and your healing rate. Please be aware that depending on race and class as well as a random factor, two characters with the same constitution will earn different amounts of hit points per level.

What do the numbers in the parentheses besides my stats mean?
Those are your “temporary” or “modified” stats. That is, your statistics as they are while being affected by a spell or piece of equipment.

Do temporary stats affect me in any way?
Yes. Lowered strength means you can carry less and do less damage, lowered dexterity means you have worsened armor class and dodge less, lowered constitution means you heal slower. Temporarily lowered intelligence and constitution will affect you when you level up, resulting in lessened mana and hit point gains. Temporarily lowered constitution will not make you die of old age faster.

How do I heal faster and regain mana faster?
Resting or sleeping will recover both faster, sleeping recovering the fastest. Resting or sleeping on something like a bed, chair, or bedroll could also affect how fast you recover. Be aware some things you can rest on may actually hurt your recovery rate. Use common sense. A bed of gore covered nails would not likely help you heal very fast.

What is “mental energy” and “rank”?
They are the roleplay terms for mana and levels.

How come I got hit by lightning for swearing in public?
Dark Mists is oriented towards a more PG-16 level and swearing is not allowed in public.

Can I use Internet type chatting when I talk to people?
It’s not recommended because Internet chatting is not roleplay. People won’t react well to you going “Hi how r u 2 day?” and some may actually kill you for “talking funny”.

Is cybering allowed?
No.

Can I play more than one character?
Yes and no. You may have more than one character, but you are not allowed to log both in at the same time for ANY reason and you are not allowed to let equipment go from one character to another through any means.
