the Elemental Heroine

Athildo says, 'I was actually reading your scroll...'

To: Light
Greetings, my friends. After carefully having studied the histories of this
world, and spending time in the company of the tree that grows within the dome,
I have come to a theory. I believe that it is entirely possible for that tree
to be able to pose as a suitable habitat for the race of fragile creatures that
take shelter within my branches. They are not yet ready to thrive in this world
as they are now, but given ample time to develop their niche, they can be a good
addition to our civilization. Some of them have the power to retrieve residual
magical energy in the atmosphere and help sow them back into the weave, thereby
assisting the One True Spell in replenishing the weave. It may be unheard of now,
but it is what they have been doing for ages past, in a grove unbeknownst to you.

I believe it is in our best interest to work together in helping such a wonderful
race flourish. If I could be allowed to work alongside of you, I would be honored.
I will take the necessary steps to ensure their safety, as well as the tree, and
all those who guard it, with the amount of power I hold. If you deem me fit to be
a knight of the Dome, then I wouldst gladly take such a position. I am Fernelyn
Strawberry, a twin-leaf earth shifter of the fourty-fourth circle. If you could
grant me an audience, I shall further elaborate on myself if necessary.

You mentally project, 'do you wish to meet them?'

Athildo says, 'Tell me why you would look towards to the Dome of Light'

Athildo looks at you.

Description:
This small tree seems to host the figure of a lady leaning against its trunk.
Moss-covered bark envelopped her surface, making a smooth yet hardened outer
skin. The face seemed well-developped, almost carved to match the face of
a beautiful human girl. Trickles of grapevine encircled her head, crowning
her with delicacy, while allowing some to hang low beyond her chest. Her
legs and feet seemed slightly unfinished but partially snug under the dirt
below her. She appears to meld well with the ground, almost rooted like the
tree she leans on. Her arms are thin and fragile-looking, with fingers much
like a wooden doll. Small yellow and pink flowers bud along her arms and
drape down the forefront of her body, covering her two legs in a natural
bouquette. She was beloved by the faeries that encircled around her. Two
smaller ones in particular have perched themselves on either shoulder. A
series of chirping come from their direction as the tree dryad finally opens
its emerald eyes in turn to look back at you. It is alive, and moving, this
being. Covered in flowers and vines from head to toe, it had been upright
the whole time. The tree and her are one body, merely attached to the back
of her statuesque portion. And on it grows bushels of ripe strawberries
that tend to fall as she moves about, encouraging a sub-natural plantation.

You mentally project, 'upon my first visit here I sensed something familiar about this tree.'

You mentally project, 'at the time, I did not know what it was.'

You mentally project, 'after having read the books and histories.'

You mentally project, 'it seems that feeling was a kindred feeling I felt. This ... if I'm not mistaken... was born out of the
Tree of Life?'

You mentally project, 'a sapling, perhaps.'

You mentally project, 'of that age-old tree.'

Fernelyn releases her roots and feels around the tree bark.

Athildo nods his head while listening.

You mentally project, 'yes... yes this feeling.'

You mentally project, 'I am almost certain of its truth.'

Fernelyn shakes slightly as a red ball of light jumps out of the folds in her branches.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Lyn, it feels the same for me too!'

Fernelyn turns her head to look at the flying red ball of light.

Athildo giggles.

You mentally project, 'I didn't tell you to come out yet.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'oh don't be so strict! I like it here.'

Athildo looks at the small ball of red and giggles with delight.

You cough loudly.

You mentally project, 'in any case, she wouldst be able to tell you more about this feeling, for she is older than me.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'that's right. I'm almost two hundred, but young-looking as ever!'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'The old tree of life. When we heard news of its passing... It was a frightening and sad
occurance.'

Athildo nods sagely.

Athildo says, 'I wasn't even thought of, but I've read about the Tree of Life before.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'ages ago, that was the first time ever we saw our very own tree, whom we caretake for since the
beginning of our lives... the Tree of Mana.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'the first time ever... it shed tears.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'after speaking with our holy council, we discovered that the relationship our tree and that tree
shared, was similar to cousins.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'As we were discussing what to do about it... something strange happened.'

Fernelyn tilts her head, listening intently.

Athildo blinks a few times while listening intently.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'the stream of tears which began flowing from the Tree of Mana's bark was so rich in the weave's
power that it sprouted many many plantations, which grew rapidly.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'among which, there was a fern tree and a strawberry bush that just happened to bloom at the same
location.'

You blink in surprise.

You mentally project, 'I suppose that's how I began as?'

Athildo looks to you and then towards the red pixie.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Yes yes... but you wouldn't be moving around if not for one other inconceivable event.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'we don't know for certain, but it seems a soul was summoned from beyond the grove, and it found
its way into the uniquely woven twin-sapling.'

Athildo mouth opens widely in surprise.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'As of yet, we don't know who that soul was originally, but I am certain you and it are one and the same.'

Athildo says, 'Whose soul came back from the grave?'

Athildo peers at you intently.

You boggle at the concept.

You mentally project, 'I know not what of my past life, if ever I had one.'

Athildo looks at you.

You mentally project, 'I'm afraid I cannot tell you.'

Athildo says, 'Hum....'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'we feared as much, so the council sent her to explore the world, at the same time learning all
she can for herself, and the immobile Tree of Mana.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Myself and my idiot brother, was assigned as her guardians.'

Athildo giggles.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Do you plan to sleep all day, Quinn?'

A small blue undine says, 'No... I just thought... I just...'

Athildo holds a hand over his mouth as he continues to giggle.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Oh whatever. You are not needed in this anyways.'

Fernelyn rattles a bit as a blue undine peeks out from beneath her bosom bark.

A small blue undine says, 'You are so mean sometimes, Minx.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Don't mind him, he still acts like a scared little brat.'

Athildo giggles.

You nod.

Athildo says, 'Oh the brother and sister relationship.'

Athildo giggles.

You mentally project, 'well... after learning what I could from the world, I have learned to find my own values and purpose.'

You mentally project, 'I began serving as a worshipper of the One True Spell, for if not for Her gifts, I would not even exist.'

Athildo smiles happily.

You mentally project, 'In place of the Tree of Mana, my eyes will bear witness to the world.'

You mentally project, 'I am only able to return to such a home, such a hidden grove should I meet the end of my journey.'

You mentally project, 'but sometimes I become homesick, and I miss the friends who took care of me while I was still a shrub.'

You mentally project, 'so I thought it would be a splendid idea if I could bring more of these faeries with me.'

Athildo says, 'You cannot visit the hidden grove?'

You shake your head.

You mentally project, 'it is shielded by a powerful force.'

You mentally project, 'one cannot even begin to find a path to it.'

You mentally project, 'unless it willingly allows entry.'

Athildo nods sagely.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'We faeries uphold such a shield, but only the strongest ones, our elders bear any
influence to the strength of that power.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'it is to prevent any harm from reaching the Tree of Mana.'

Athildo nods sagely.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'I know not of its other kindred trees, but I truly hope that it will live on as long as this
world continues.'

You mentally project, 'apparently I can only harbor two faeries at a time.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'That's because you're a twin-sapling, Lyn.'

Athildo says, 'What were their names again?'

Athildo says, 'Minx I thought...?'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'I'm Minx.'

A small blue undine says, 'I... I... Quinn.'

Athildo smiles at the small red pixie named Minx adn then to Quinn.

Athildo says, 'Nice to meet you both.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Speak properly next time.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'You're in the presence of someone very holy and powerful.'

You mentally project, 'there there, your brother has always been shy.'

You mentally project, 'no need to be so strict.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Aughhh'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'annoys me sometimes.'

Athildo giggles.

You mentally project, 'Anyhow, I'd like these friends of mine... more of them, to be able to live amongst us.'

You mentally project, 'when we tried to bring a third...'

The sun slowly disappears in the west.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Or rather... he tried to force himself to come along...'

You mentally project, 'he... got caught by the shield and ... mutated into something else without a proper host.'

You mentally project, 'apparently the environment is unhealthy for faeries, the atmosphere holds a mix of auras that easily
influence their life forces.'

You mentally project, 'both gold and red, and those inbetween.'

Athildo says, 'Interesting....'

You mentally project, 'upon contact with such a mix, the third faerie... Gale. He turned into a banshee.'

The night has begun.

A small blue undine says, 'It... it was pretty scary.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'we don't see him all that much, but sometimes he comes around when we're not looking and stalks
us.'

Athildo sits down and thinks deeply.

You mentally project, 'I thought it best to work alongside this tree in the dome... so that perhaps the environment for faeries
becomes healthier.'

You mentally project, 'and more of them are able to come without the need of a host.'

You mentally project, 'after all, this tree is a sapling of the Tree of Life, cousin to the Tree of Mana.'

Athildo says, 'Are there a lot more faeries?'

You mentally project, 'it should probably be the most compatible amongst any environment.'

You boggle at the concept.

You mentally project, 'oh dear me... it is an entire race and culture.'

You mentally project, 'they spawn of various colors and types, with different sizes, albeit the largest one be the banshees.'

Athildo says, 'Are the banshees good or bad though?'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Banshees are faeries that got taken by the red aura. They are not allowed in the grove.'

Athildo says, 'I'm not very familiar with faeries atal....'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'I'm a pixie. I excel at controlling a wee bit of fire, but only in the grove.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'the environment here doesn't respond well to my magic.'

A small blue undine says, 'I... I like water.'

Athildo giggles.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'I don't.'

Athildo says, 'Quite the opposite for a brother and sister.'

Athildo giggles.

You mentally project, 'there are different kinds of pixies, and undines.'

You mentally project, 'I'm sure some faeries already exist in this world, but they have taken very stable, common, even humanoid
forms.'

You mentally project, 'and are unlike the ones found in the grove.'

Athildo nods his head slowly.

You mentally project, 'I suppose the most common example... would be... '

You ponder the question.

You mentally project, 'gnomes.'

Athildo says, 'Oh, I don't see many gnomes about the lands....'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'they're what we call earth faeries.'

Athildo sits down and thinks deeply.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'but they're really different from us... and tend to be a lot slower.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'they're the only ones among us that like the dirt.'

A small red pixie faerie says, 'most of us fly.'

Athildo giggles.

You mentally project, 'wisps are faeries as well.'

You mentally project, 'but they're a bit too playful to tame.'

Athildo nods.

Athildo frowns and sighs.

You mentally project, 'tree spirits... I suppose they look like elves but are actually closer in kind to faeries.'

You mentally project, 'dryads are what they are called.'

You mentally project, 'sprites are faeries as well.'

Athildo says, 'Hum, I'm sorry to interrupt you Fernelyn...but I must be parting the lands.'

You nod.

You mentally project, 'thank you for this opportunity, sir.'

Athildo says, 'Oh sorry, you too Minx and Quinn.'

Athildo giggles.

You mentally project, 'I enjoyed our talk.'

Athildo agrees absolutely.

A small red pixie faerie says, 'Safe journeys.'

Athildo says, 'Learning about something I've never really known before.'

Athildo says, 'Your of course welcome to find shelter here if you would like....'

You beam delightedly at nothing in particular.

You mentally project, 'thank you'
