Just thinking from other MUDs something I think would be neat - having a priest or mage that would identify your weapons for a fee in the towns. Maybe you could charge the level of the item times two in gold pieces to identify it. Just would make going out and finding new items a little more exciting to be able to id them without trying to find a mage willing to do it for you..

Scrolls of identify are sold. Just no high level ones i can think of. I like the idea though.

Scrolls don't help warriors.

Personally I think not being able to see the stats on eq is ridiculous and unfriendly to new players. The fact that you cannot even your own stats until certain levels makes it even worse. Oh you were wearing a -10 con item for 15 levels? Too bad, you may as well delete and re-roll. Don't know why you only got 2 pracs instead of 3?

Every other game out there that deals with equipment you can see the stats. Why is this game different?

because we're l33t. Durh. No, but seriously... i like the original idea posted here. Perhaps Brethren should summon demons in all towns with vast amounts of arcane knowledge to do such... Wait, don't want to use my demon because your a goodie and you feel morally compounded by it? Too bad. Razz

I love everybody equally, even evil people. They just need to know that what they're doing is wrong, that's all. I have no wish to exterminate evil, I just probably would walk on the other side of the street and avoid them.

Legion though, they're bad people... bad bad.

At any rate... I have this "fortify" skill that is like an enchant. but I can't tell what it's doing.

This game is largely about learning from your mistakes as a newbie. We can't throw 'em too many bones b/c if they aren't willing to try hard and get creative, how are they going to last?!

Smile

My perspective is ... warriors can identify if you're a gnome ...

Not saying your idea is bad, Xeryn, just maybe not entirely what we need.

Well I suppose there is something to being able to id equipment young - but I'm thinking more about at higher ranks. I'm still a bit of an equipment newb and one of my favorite things do still do is explore and find anything I can and see what it does.

Pay that pretty penny to actual enchanters. They deserve the extra attention! How is a mob supposed to tell you specific item stats anyways?

You give a beautiful diamond necklace to the Enchantress of Yrn.

You say, "Please identify this for me?"

[OOC] Enchantress of Yrn: 25 hp, -4 svt, blah blah... wtf why am I talking OOC as a mob?

Food for thought.

PS. Stop being lazy and roll an enchanter. *peer*

There was a skill called LORE in some of the muds i played. This skills able warrior-type classes identify to some extent, but this skill was not a full fledged identify. Maybe it could be like that one can be able to identify equal level of equipment up to level 44-45. Frankly, i don't like the paying to enchanter and getting information from ooc channel option. This is kinda weird, you know. You are paying in game, your getting information out of game. This is mainly because giving right information in game without harming game atmosphere is quiet hard.

Elder crusaders used to get Lore. I had it with Onemas.

Don't know about now.

It's... no where near as useful as 'identify' spell. It shows us stuff that's obvious, save but one or two good things we can't always tell just from wearing it.
