Immortal Process: 1. Applicant will fill out form below and submit it to 'applications' at the domain 'darkmists.org'. 2. The IMPs will call for an Immortal vote via email and the forum (1 week duration). 3. Based on results of the Immortal vote, applicant will be tentatively accepted, or refused. This will be communicated to the applicant via one of the IMPs. 4. Tentatively accepted applicants will be required to submit some form of work to the game. It may be code, areas, emotes, socials, help file fixes, etc. 5. After review of submitted work, applicant will be advanced to level 52, or remanded to review their work and resubmit. - Note: This process is in place to prevent Immortals joining the Pantheon and then doing nothing and retiring. Consider the work you do prior to Immortality as a deposit on becoming an Immortal. If you do nothing after becoming an Immortal, at least we keep the deposit for our trouble. This is also to help the Pantheon recognize those who want to contribute to the game, and those that want the position for the heck of it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- = O F F I C I A L I M M O R T A L A P P L I C A T I O N = ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Player Name : Current Character Name: (1) Where are you from? (2) How long have you played DM? How regularly do you play DM? (3) List previous characters you have played. Note the branded and Housed characters. (4) What position would you fill in the pantheon? (5) Please rank the following in what needs the most improvment (the most is 1st, and the least is 7th): ___ Races ___ Classes ___ Areas ___ Religions ___ Houses ___ Documentation ___ Website (6) In your opinion what was the best character you ever played? Why? (7) In your opinion what was the worst character you ever played? Why? (8) (Optional) Do you hold a college degree in computer science, programming, IT, business, etc? Are you working in a position related to the mentioned fields? (9) Tell us, in depth, of a defining moment in the life of the character you desire to become an immortal. (10) How would you handle the following scenarios? Assume you have the power of Level 60 Implementors. (a) Another Immortal has a suspicion about a particular pair of characters and transfers them to 1212. This Immortal does not have time to deal with the characters, so he writes a penalty note about them that states that in his opinion and observation, these two characters are definitely multicharring. It is your turn to deal with the two characters, and you have read the penalty note to become familiar with the situation. You also know that all multicharring is subject to denial of every character involved. Describe what you would do with these mortals and why you would do it. (b) You are instrumental in the implementation of a particular feature, and it has been in the game for one day since reboot. The forum is ablaze. A few people said they liked it, but the general response is that it is overpowered, lame, the product of an idiot and a pantheon of idiots. How would you handle the situation? (c) After being punished, the player repeatedly logs into the MUD with ugly names and prays up obscenities about you, the pantheon, the MUD, Jesus, and anything else they can conjure on short notice. How would you handle this situation? (d) Some mortal is brought into 1212 (Realm of the Dead) to correct his description, which consists of one line of misspelled words and a few choice obscenities. A couple Immortals joke about this guy in immtalk, calling him a "moron". One of these two Imms gets sick of dealing with the mortal and leaves him alone in 1212 to "rot", writing a penalty note that says as much. What would you do in this situation? (e) A mortal posts on the log forum a log that includes you in what looks -- from the log -- to be multicharring that was never punished. The post gets 100 responses within 8 hours time, all of them negative, talking about how Immortals are corrupt and how you should be punished. You remember the instance vaguely, as it happened a while back, but you are fairly certain you did not do anything wrong. You receive two e-mails where some mortals berate you for your wrongdoing, and a few of the other Immortals have started to question what you did in this log. How would you handle this situation? (f) You have determined that one of the players has cheated, and you denied his characters. Another Immortal shows up and asks you why you denied his friend's character. You point him towards your written penalty note and try to explain, but he does not listen. He mentions bringing it up to an IMP and logs out. What do you do? (g) You find out the name of some Immortal's character. A player comes up to you and says that he suspects the character belongs to an Immortal and that he is giving his characters his brand. Also, this player suspects that the equipment this Imm's character possesses was taken off people from the Realm of Hoarders. You have heard some rumor of the Immortal giving his characters his own brand, and you know that this Immortal does take care of people in the Realm of Hoarders. The player asks you if it really is an Immortal's character and asks if, in that case, there is something he can do to help when it comes to gathering proof. You have the authority to look into this situation, so what do you do? (h) You came up with an idea that will improve the MUD greatly. For some reason, several of the Immortals you have spoken with cannot quite understand your idea. They pick out a few of its details and discuss how it can be abused and why it would be bad for the MUD. At least one IMP is siding with these other IMMs. Two weeks pass in that state, and it is obvious to you that your idea is not really getting through. What do you do?
