The Dark Mists Community

The Flyer Contest

Menel had offered to take flyers for Dark Mists to an anime convention. This kind of thing is a wonderful opportunity for the MUD, especially as many of us have a healthy taste for (and support, monetarily and otherwise) this excellent artform. And he came up with a great idea that should be fun for the entire Dark Mists community! We should have a contest!

So here were the rules:

Design a flyer to advertise Dark Mists. Your target audience is an anime convention.
E-mail your artwork in a common graphic format (PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP) to someone named 'contest' at our 'darkmists.org' domain. Subjects must include "Menel's Flyer".
You may use any static-art medium. Animated gifs do not make for good flyers. Paint, pastel, oil, 3D computer-generated graphics, and so forth can make for great printouts. Be wary of JPEG and similar compressed formats; pixellation can be ugly unless intended.
You may submit more than one unique entry.
You are not allowed to plagiarize in any fashion. We will not accept copyrighted material. The work is entirely your own. Therefore, please mark some acceptable form of your name on the contest entry in order to secure your own credit for the entry.
The contest ends midnight CST, Tuesday, April 26, 2005.
The Immortals of Dark Mists will judge the submitted flyers. This judgement is final. If there are enough submissions, we will choose the top three to send along.
Submitted artwork will be shown on a webpage here either right before the due date or after...but not before.
Prizes? Oh yes, there are prizes. They will depend upon the interests of the winner(s).
Official winning entries will be announced here...as well as sent to Menel.
Look here for updates to the rules. We might extend the date due, Menel-allowing, as well as present other specifics, such as target flyer sizes. For now, assume your flyer will need to fit a standard piece of printer paper (or be foldable with those dimensions flat).

In the end, we received only four entries, two from an Immortal and two by regular players. Even in those four entries, we can see an amazing talent, although... truth be known... that Xurinos drawing is a cleaned up version of Nyrisia's original artwork. Fortunately, she does not seem to mind her work being incorporated in this case in spite of Joja's poor choice of House! (Just kidding! Keep your staves away from me!)

As for prizes, due to the low number of entries, I will be contacting Stashz and Mirroth to hand them their rewards. The reward will depend upon the specific player's interest and character's need, so unfortunately, I cannot announce what it may be yet.
